5 crore to be spent on breed improvement of desi cows

To ensure the improvement in the breed of the desi and cross breed cows, the Punjab government has initiated an Embryo Transfer Technology through which not only improvement of breed could be ensured but there would be tremendous increase in the milk production.
          Stating this here today, Mr. Des Raj Dhugga, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department said that the government would spend an amount of Rs. 5 crore on the improvement of breed of desi and cross breed cows. Cattle Breeding Farm at Patiala has been equipped with all kinds of required infrastructure for this purpose where embryos have been imported from overseas agencies and transferred, said Mr. Dhugga. In order to further modernize Embryo Transfer Technology, about 118 Embryos have been imported from united sates of America and 67 were kept in the desi cows out of which good quality 8 male calves and two female calves were born through this extremely advanced technology, said Mr. Dhugga. 
          Mr. Dhugga also said that this scheme was launched by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University Ludhiana in collaboration with the department of Animal Husbandry Punjab. He also said that an advanced Laboratory fully equipped with latest and highly scientific machinery for the Embryo Transfer has been set up in Patiala. Adding further, he said that in order to achieve the targets in Embryo Transfer Technology, 10 cows with 5000 per lactation of Cattle Breeding Farm have been identified after thorough screening for the development of the embryo transfer.
          Mr. Dhugga also said that in the coming years, the Punjab Government would sensitize the young progressive dairy farmers’ from Sangrur, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib about the highly advanced technology of embryo transfer.
