PUNE, NOV 8
Rajiv Datar of Pune hung on to his lead in round two of the PGTI Players Championship presented by Poona Club Ltd. Datar fired a three-under-68 on Thursday to take his total to eight-under-134. Mukesh Kumar of Mhow and Kolkata’s Shankar Das are placed tied second at seven-under-135.
The cut was declared at four-over-146. Fifty-seven professionals and two amateurs made the cut.
Rajiv Datar (66-68) followed up his bogey-free 66 in round one with a solid 68 in the second round to stay ahead at the halfway stage. Rajiv dropped a bogey as a result of a three-putt on the 11th but came back
well with a 25-footer for birdie on the 13th. The 34-year-old, who is yet to win a professional event, moved to two-under for the day with birdies on the 16th and 18th. His immaculate tee shot on the 16th landed five feet from the pin.
The overnight joint leader conceded a bogey on the fourth before producing two good drives that were followed by accurate second shots for birdies on the fifth and ninth.
Datar said, “I hit some very good drives today and putted better than round one. I also scrambled well from tough situations. I made a couple of good pars on the first and third. On both these occasions I
made up and down from 140 yards. My driving set up quite a few birdie opportunities for me. It’s a good position to be in at the halfway stage. I’ll look to play in the same manner on the last two days.”
Mukesh Kumar (68-67) and Shankar Das (66-69) are tied for the second place, one stroke behind the leader. Mukesh’s round of 67 included an eagle, three birdies and a bogey. He chipped-in from the edge for
eagle on the seventh. Shankar’s score of 69 featured four birdies and two bogeys.
Delhi’s Kapil Kumar is in fourth place at six-under-136 while Sri Lankan Mithun Perera is a further shot back in fifth position.
