An opening wicket partnership of 77 runs between Akshath
Reddy and Ravi Teja helped Hyderabad score 244 for 7 in 90 overs against Punjab
in their Ranji Trophy Group A match at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium
in Mohali here today.
Punjab captain Harbhajan Singh won the toss and elected to
field. Hyderabad opened their innings through Akshath Reddy and Ravi Teja.
These openers gave the visiting team a sound start as they were associated in a
77-run partnership in 31.2 overs. This association was broken by right ram
medium pacer Amitoze Singh who had Ravi Teja caught by Harbhajan Singh. Ravi Teja stayed at the wicket for 141
minutes and faced 97 balls and executed four fours.
Reddy was joined by Hanuma Vihari and they carried the total
to 136 before Vihari departed, caught by Goel of the bowling of right arm
medium fast bowler Sandeep Sharma. Vihari
made 28 runs. With addition of two more runs to the Hyderabad total,
opener Reddy departed. He was caught by wicketkeeper Uday Kaul of the bowling
of Manpreet Grewal.
Reddy during his 230-minute vigil at the wicket faced 154
deliveries and reached the fence for 10 times for his well made 63 runs. Hyderabad captain VVS Laxman and Arjun Yadav
took the total to 169 before Laxman (23, 4x4s) was adjudged leg before wicket
to Amitoze Singh. Hyderabad lost their fifth wicket of Ahmed Quadri (0) at the
same total.
Arjun Yadav (34, 6x4s) and wicket-keeper Ibrahim Khaleel
(batting 38, 4x4s) stitched a partnership of 52 runs for the sixth wicket before
Arjun Yadav was bowled by Manpreet Grewal. At close of play Ibhrahim Khaleel
and Pragyan Ojha were batting on 38 and four, respectively.
Manpreet Grewal (3 for 51) and Amitoze Singh (3 for 33) were
the main wicket takers. Sandeeop Singh bagged 1 for 40. Harbhajan Singh
remained wicketless in his 20-over spell.
