CHANDIGARH, JULY 26
The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has started a virtual information collection center-‘e-TRIP’ to facilitate taxable persons, advocates, charted accountants and cost accountants that would enable them to submit the information regarding intrastate movement of goods (within Punjab).
According to an official spokesman, taxable persons making sales above Rs. 3 lakh and in the case of iron and steel above Rs. 2 lakh would be able to submit the information on ‘e-TRIP’ on the website of the department www.pextax.com . He said that e-TRIP is a facility through which the details of each movement of goods can be entered on the Department’s website.
He said that this will result in the generation of an acknowledgement slip which shall accompany the goods during their movement. The Spokesman added that in case this acknowledgement slip does not accompany the goods the owner would become liable for penal action under section 51 of the Punjab VAT Act.
He said that earlier under section 51 of VAT Act, every movement of goods was required to be accompanied by documents and this information was collected at Information Collection Centers of the Department. He said that for interstate movement the department had already introduced ‘e-ICC’, where owners of goods could furnish the information from their premises.
He said that now from August 10, 2012 all sellers, whose goods of value as prescribed are to move from one place to another within Punjab, they can submit information on ‘e-TRIP’. He said that by this facility smooth transportation of goods would not hinder as it would not involve any physical barriers.
The spokesman said that all persons filing returns in the department under VAT Act could avail this facility by using the username and password for e-filing.
