Punjab to add 350 new buses

CHANDIGARH, JULY 15

The Punjab Government has decided to add 350 new buses in the existing fleet of PUNBUS to provide quality public                     
Disclosing this here today, Mr. Ajit Singh Kohar Transport Minister Punjab said that at present total fleet strength of Punjab Roadways and PUNBUS was more than two thousand buses, including 1861 ordinary, 140 Integral coach and 20 super integral coach AC buses. He said that new buses to be added in the exiting fleet very soon. The Punjab Government has also added 210 ordinary, 25 HVAC and 8 Mercedes Benz buses in the fleet of PUNBUS last year.
Mr. Kohar further said that Punjab Roadways and PRTC have already been providing free/concessional travel facilities to the tune of Rs.65 crore per annum to the widows, handicapped persons, freedom fighters, students etc. To enable the common man to travel in the AC buses at very low fare, the Transport Department has introduced integral and HVAC bus
In order to upgrade and improve the infrastructure in order to provide better transport facilities, Mr. Kohar said that a state of art air conditioned bus stand would be functional at Mohali having the parking capacity of more than 1600 vehicles. Shopping malls, corporate offices, multiplex hotel etc. would be also be a part of this bus stand. Mr. Kohar also added that new bus stands have already been built at Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Phagwara to provide facilities to the people and concrete efforts would be made to remove the short comings in the transport infrastructure.
