Sukhbir gifts Rs 64 crore projects on first birthday of Fazilka District

JALALABAD/FAZILKA, JULY 27
 The 22nd district of Punjab today celebrated its first anniversary and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal gifted Rs.64 crore projects on its maiden birthday. The constituency of Jalalabad today took first baby step to become Chandigarh of border area of Punjab with Punjab Deputy Chief Minister dedicating two crucial bridges, one school building and one stadium to its people.
For the people of Fazilka, Diwali was celebrated three months before the actual festival as in a glittering ceremony lasting till late night the Deputy Chief Minister today dedicated Rs.64 crore development projects ranging from a Girls’ School Building to District Administrative Complex (DAC) to the people of Fazilka district on the 1st anniversary of this newly carved district. 
The Deputy Chief Minister laid a foundation stone of Rs.37 crore DAC, besides inaugurating Rs.59 lacs Computerized Fard Kendra at Fazilka and Rs.3.15 crore 66 KV Power Grid Station at village Theh Qalandar and Rs. 2 crore High Level Bridge over Jalalabad Main Drain at Mandi Ladhuka. Earlier, Mr. Badal laid foundation stones of Rs.9.81 crore new building of Government Senior Secondary School for Girls and Rs.7 crore Multi-purpose Sports Stadium at Jalalabad, besides inaugurating two bridges having joint cost of Rs.1.21 crore on Jalalabad drain crossings. He also announced the setting up of 100 bed hospital costing Rs.22 crore at Jalalabad at the earliest besides construction of building of Government Senior Secondary School for boys also.
            Mr. Badal reiterated the SAD-BJP Government’s commitment to develop world class infrastructure in the newly set up districts. He said that being a border area, the development of Fazilka district would always remain at the top agenda of the state government. 
He said that at number of times, the state government had demanded a special border area development package for the border areas of the state keeping in view its long international border so that required job opportunities could be created for the unemployed youth. He said that the state government from its own limited sources would soon announce a special border area package to boost the economy of this most neglected area soon.
Interacting with the media persons, the Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that due to deficit rain fall in the state, the State Government had already urged the Union government to immediately release Rs.800 crore for providing relief to the farming community, which was forced to bleed itself to save the paddy crop for further keeping intact the food self reliance of the country. He informed that the Chief Minister has personally called on Union Power Minister to allocate 1000 MW additional power for agri-sector. 
            Later on the Deputy Chief Minister presided over a function organized to mark the first anniversary of setting up of Fazilka as district headquarter at MR College Stadium in which famous Punjabi singer Miss Puja regaled the audience with her selected foot tapping numbers.
            Prominent amongst who spoke on the occasion included Mr. Surjit Kumar Jyani, Forests and Labour Minister, Mr. Sher Singh Ghubaya and Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu (both MPs), Mr. Ashwani Sharma MLA and President BJP, Punjab, Mr. Gurtej Singh Ghuriana, MLA, Mr. Prem Kumar Valecha, President District Planning Committee, Fazilka and Mr. Kamal Sharma, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Punjab. Dr. Basant Garg, Deputy Commissioner and Mr. G.S. Dhillon SSP was also present on the occasion.
