Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) to retire at 60

The Punjab Government today amended Punjab Civil Service Rules enhancing the retirement age limit of Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) officers to 60 years.
According to an Official Spokesman, now a member of the Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) or the Superior Judicial Services would be retire on attaining the age of 60 years, if High Court has been satisfied of the continued utility to the Judicial System, subject to evaluation of his/her potential by making an objective assessment of his/her work, conduct and integrity and also keeping in view the reputation acquired by him/her as a Judicial Officer. He further made it clear that if High Court has not been satisfied with the Judicial Officer than he/she would retire at the age of 58 years. He said that this decision has came into effect from October8, 2012.       
 He said that the decision to enhance the age of retirement for the officers of Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) and of the Superior Judicial Services has been taken in the pursuance of Supreme Court decision on review petition No 249 of 1992 and Writ Petition No 1022 of 1989.
