95 Aryan College students donate blood

Aryans College of Education, Chandigarh recently organized “Blood Donation Camp” in its campus situated at Vill Nepra (Banur), Chandigarh-Patiala Highway, near Chandigarh. Around 95 students of B.Tech, MBA, BBA, BCA & B.Ed enthusiastically donated blood as a small token of concern towards noble cause. A 6 member team of Doctors and technicians from PGI, Chandigarh under the leadership of Dr. Usha Rao, Blood Transfusion Department, PGI conducted thorough medical check up of voluntary donors and selected the eligible donors to donate blood. The students were given certificates, mementoes and donor cards along with refreshments.
Dr. Manjula Kataria, Principal, Aryans College of Education shared his views that worldwide millions of lives get saved every year because of blood donation and many more can be saved. Blood is Life and blood donation is noble cause. Dr. Kataria added that the college is looking forward to organize such camps on regular basis.

Dr. Usha Rao said that one unit of blood can save 3 lives. She said that PGI recently introduced a new instrument Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) which is the most sensitive and state-of-the-art testing for improving blood safety from transfusion transmissible viral infections: HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. She added that it detects the presence of DNA or RNA of the virus. She further said that in India, this equipment is only available in PGI.
Prof BS Sidhu, Registrar, Aryans Group said that “None of us can survive without blood in our body and blood donation is a service to the society”. She appreciated the students who donated their blood. It feels good when people come forward for a noble cause, especially when we see enthusiastic feeling of youngsters for mankind” she added. 
Prof AP Jain, Principal, Aryans Group said that such camps will kindle a spirit of social service in the student community. Quoting the benefits of donating blood, she further said that it helps to maintain healthy heart, increases red blood cells production, helps in decreasing body weight and on top of it improves the psychological health as it gives a feel good factor.
Mrs Sarita Jain, Dean-Academics, Aryans Group appealed the youth to donate blood for this Noble cause. She congratulated the donors and encouraged the students to continue the blood donation every year, so that the patients who die due to paucity of blood may survive..
