Insurance Ombudsman decides 1282 complaints

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 21
Mr. Manik Sonawane, Insurance Ombudsman, Chandigarh has decided 1282 complaints including 806 of life insurance and 476 of general insurance out of the total 2383 complaints received as on September 21, 2012.
          The post of Insurance Ombudsman was created as per provision of Redressal of Public Grievances Rules, 198 by the Union Ministry of Finance. Out of the 12 insurance ombudsmen, New Delhi had the highest number of cases in the country followed by Chandigarh. However, in terms of awards, decision and disposals, the progress of Chandigarh office is the best in the country which looks after the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
          During this period, the requisite physical infrastructure was also created alongwith additional posting of two senior officers to facilitate expeditious disposal of the cases and with the smoothening of office work, all the old pending cases would be decided in the next three months.
