SAD seeks immediate roll back diesel price hike

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 22
The Shiromani Akali Dal today slammed Congress led UPA government for effecting 45 paise per litre  increase in price of diesel and demanded immediate roll back in view of record fall back in the price on international crude prices.
In a statement issued here today, the Party President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Union government was bent upon ruining the economy of the nation and retarding the growth of industry by fortnightly increase in the price of diesel, just to help a few multinational oil companies. He said that diesel price hike was another blow to farming community, transport sector and a vast section of society that was already suffering due to sub zero percent growth of Indian economy.
Expressing concern over opaque price fixation formula of oil products Mr. Badal said that with 1 lakh crore in reserves, oil companies have no right to rob the pocket of poor people. He said that it was matter of great surprise that Bent crude price was touching record low of $110 and instead of lowering the price of oil products, the oil companies at the direction of Congress led UPA government were raising the price every fortnight.
He said that the SAD had been demanding constitution of Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) to go into the price fixation formula of oil product but UPA under the pressure of oil lobby was turning deaf ear to this. He said that hike in diesel price would have an adverse effect on farming sector as farmers are using diesel pumps to produce crop for national granary. Mr. Badal said that transport sector already reeling under losses due to recession in economy would not be able to bear the brunt of hike in price of diesel. He said that diesel price hike would have a cascading effect on inflation further crushing the common man with repeated price hikes.
Seeking immediate roll back of hike in diesel price and constitution of JPC, Mr. Badal said that these suicidal decisions confirm the fact that Congress led UPA government was itself putting the last nail in its own coffin for 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
