CHANDIGARH, SEPT 8
The signing of visa pact between the Governments of India and Pakistan is set to promote trust and confidence among the countries on both sides of the border. The earlier proposal of the Indian government to reduce the peak tariff rate to five per cent within three years and slash 30% items or 254 products from the sensitive list under the South Asian Free Trade Agreement (Safta) was also very much appreciated by PHD Chamber, an apex industry body working at the grassroot level for the industry.
“The decisions are intended to boost trade in south Asia, a development that will have positive spin-offs for India and the rest of the region while bringing about closer economic integration and strengthening of ties among nations often divided by politics and history”, said Rajiv Bali, Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber.
RS Sachdeva, Co-Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that “the recent announcements of the Govt is sending positive vibes to not only the business community of both the countries but also the tourist fraternity which in turn shall lead to buoyant and flourishing trade”.
Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber said that “PHD Chamber since long had been advocating and working towards developing harmonious relations with Pakistan by inviting trade delegations from various provinces of Pakistan to interact with the Indian Industry Associations and holding exclusive Indo-Pak trade shows at Ludhiana, Shimla etc”. PITEX , the international trade show being organized annually at Amritsar witnesses major Pak participation ,having a dedicated pavilion of Pakistan. This year, owing to so many positive developments on the border front, we expect even higher partaking of Pakistani business community in PITEX-12, added Sharma.
