CHANDIGARH, SEPT 20
“An 11-member
delegation, including Mr Rakesh Singh, Chief Secretary Punjab, visit to
Pakistan for bilateral talks in order to promote trade ties and people to
people contact will certainly bear fruitful results”, according to Mr R S
Sachdeva, Co-Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber.
Sachdeva said that, “Since
long we have been advocating this cause and taking up the issue with Central Government
to include Punjab Government for bilateral talks and ink deals facilitating mutual trade in order to
benefit both the sides of Punjab. We have also forwarded a list of items
manufactured and produced in Punjab which are not in the negative list that may
be included in the list of 137 items allowed for import through Attari- Wagah
Border. This will give a fillip to the trade especially after the opening of the
Integrated Check Post.
“Attari-Wagah land
route is a prominent import-export route between Pakistan and India and traders
of both countries use land and rail route for carrying out bilateral trade. If
Pakistan allows the trade of more items through this land route the
transportation charges will come down, thus benefiting the traders of both
sides of border”, added Mr Sachdeva.
Mr Dalip Sharma,
Regional Director of PHD Chamber disclosed that “PHD Chamber has been closely
working with different Industry Chambers of Pakistan and holding talks for
developing harmonious relations and inviting them to interact with the Indian
Industry Associations and organising exclusive Indo-Pak trade shows at
Ludhiana, Shimla etc. We vow to continue with our efforts for harmonious
relations in the future as well”.
PITEX, the international trade show
being organized annually at Amritsar witnesses major Pak participation, having
a dedicated pavilion of Pakistan. This year, owing to so many positive
developments on the border front, we anticipate even higher partaking of
Pakistani business community in PITEX-12.
PHD
is also planning to have an exhibition of Punjab industry in Lahore in collaboration
with Punjab Government next year.
“We are quite hopeful that these
trade talks with Pakistan is set to promote trust and confidence among the
countries on both sides of the border”, added Sharma.
