Punjab Congress resolves to force govt to withdraw punitive taxes

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 3
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee today resolved to force the Akali-BJP government in the state to withdraw the punitive taxes it has imposed on the people of the state. The party will hold massive dharnas on September 7 at all the district headquarters. The PCC President will attend the dharna at Ludhiana.
A meeting of the party office bearers, district presidents, MLAs and those who contested the last assembly election unsuccessfully was held at the Congress Bhawan today. It was presided over by the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh and attended among others by the senior leaders including the Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar, vice presidents Laal Singh, Rana KP, Fateh Bajwa, Ashwani Sekhri, Chaduahry Jagjit, Aruna Chudhary,  Vikram Bajwa,  NSUI president Gobind Khatra and others.
23 district presidents, 29 MLAs and 30 defeated candidates also attended the meeting.
The meeting resolved to ensure maximum participation of people in the dharnas to protest against the anti people policies of the Punjab government.
Addressing the meeting Capt Amarinder said, the government had betrayed the trust of the people and let them down. He said, every section of the society was upset and unhappy and they wanted the Congress to provide lead to voice their protest and resentment against them.
