Punjab to conduct 6th economic census from December: Dhindsa

The Punjab Government has decided to conduct 6th Economic Census-2012 in the state from December, 2012 to January, 2013. State Level Steering Committee has been constituted and other arrangements for the census have also been completed. It has been disclosed by Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Finance Minister, Punjab.
He said that the Economic Census is being conducted all over the country and in Punjab; Planning Department would spearhead this exercise in the state. Mr. Dhindsa said that the monitoring of census would be done by State Level Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Punjab. He further said that Economic Advisor, Punjab, who is also holding the charge of Additional Commissioner Census, has been deputed as Nodal Officer for the census.
Finance Minister said that for the smooth conduction of Economic Census, District Level Monitoring Committees have also been constituted. Deputy Commissioners concerned would be the chairman of these committees, who would also work in the capacity of Ex-Officio District Economic Census Commissioners. Similarly, Deputy Economic & Statistical Advisors of District Statistical Offices have been deputed as Nodal Officers, who would also be Assistant Economic Census Commissioners.
Mr. Dhindsa said that just like General Census, in this Economic Census, teachers and other staff of various departments would also be deputed as Enumerator, Supervisor and Charge Officer. He said that preliminary arrangements have been completed for the census.
