CHANDIGARH, OCT 12
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today rubbished the statement of Congress General Secretary Mr. Rahul Gandhi regarding “7 out of 10 youth” of Punjab are drug addicts and said that by making this baseless and exaggerated, sweeping  statement Mr. Gandhi has insulted 52 % youth population of Punjab painting every single youth with black brush.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of conference on Power organized by CII here today Mr. Badal describe the immature statement of Congress general secretary as a diversionary exercise to deflect the attention of media from ongoing Vadragate and Coalgate. Describing the visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi a purely political exercise, Mr. Badal said that by making this statement he has tried to cover the internal contradictions and infighting in the Punjab unit of Congress Party that was dominating the visit of Rahul to Punjab.
Holding Union Home Ministry under whose command Border Security Force operates responsible for increasing trans border smuggling of Drugs and Ammunition from across Pakistan, Mr. Badal said that Punjab cannot be blamed for increasing flow of drugs as BSF has failed to check the inflow of drugs. He said that Western borders was so porous that drug recoveries by Punjab police during last five year were more than 50% of National Recovery, indicating the total collapse of BSF. He said that it was imperative for Union Government to properly seal the border with Pakistan to check the menace of smuggling of drugs, ammunitions and fake currency.
When asked about complaints of Congress leaders regarding reduction of security cover, Mr. Badal said that security cover was decided by a committee in which representatives of Central agencies were also there on the basis of threat perception of each leader and security cover was increased or decreased as per their reports. He said that he was not drawing any distinction between leaders of various parties because as a Home Minister of the state he was responsible for security of every citizen of Punjab.
